Packers' Darnell Savage Denies Intentionally Landing 'Cheap Shot' on Derrius Guice

The Washington Redskins lost running back Derrius Guice to yet another knee injury when Green Bay Packers defender Darnell Savage landed a low tackle against him in Week 14.
That led to Guice declaring it was a dirty hit. Savage later with an air of surprise, insisting that he's never played dirty and would never dream of attempting to injury a fellow player.
"In my career, I’ve never done anything to hurt somebody … I actually told a couple of my teammates, ‘I hope he’s good’ after the play."#Packers Darnell Savage Jr. denies accusation of "cheap shot" that ended Derrius Guice's season: https://t.co/CCU62IcmZK

The tackle itself was admittedly low, and Guice does have a history of knee injuries despite being just 22 years of age. His tweet claiming the hit was dirty has since been deleted, but that doesn't mean the message was never sent.
Guice has the right to be frustrated after being knocked off the field after only appearing in five games this season. The hit forced the Redskins to place him on IR one week after he rushed for 142 yards in a victory over the Panthers.
Derrius Guice with a huge run, but he gets tackled in the knees by Darnell Savage and he stayed down with his head on the turf. Visibly in pain

All told, Savage did not do anything outside of the rules here. There was nothing dirty about the hit, as unfortunate as it ultimately was. Players are taught to go low, especially on someone as strong as Guice who has the ability to embarrass defenders who attempt to arm-tackle him within stiff-arm range.
This is just the unfortunate nature of the game rearing its ugly head. Guice and some of his teammates may continue to think otherwise, of course.
