Packers' Darrius Shepherd Continues to Make Big Impression in Preseason
By Michael Luciano
After both going undrafted and not being able to sign with any team as an undrafted free agent, Packers wide receiver Darrius Shepherd is making the most of his opportunity with Green Bay, as it looks more and more likely that he'll work his way onto the Packers roster.
Shepherd went undrafted out of North Dakota State, an offense that was heavily depended on the run, but he has done nothing but produce for the Packers so far.
While the top three receiver spots are pretty much locked down between Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown, everything after that is a complete toss up. Through a couple strong preseason games, Shepherd and 2018 UDFA Allen Lazard are leapfrogging established players like Jake Kumerow and disappointing 2018 fourth-round pick J'Mon Moore.
The preseason is the time for teams to find some undrafted gems to fill roster spots No. 52 and 53, and Shepherd certainly fits the bill. Don't be surprised if Matt LaFleur gradually works him into the offense more.
