Packers Fans Better Hope Jimmy Graham Backs up His Talk Next Season
By Sean Facey
Jimmy Graham's first season with the Green Bay Packers was as successful as he (or the team or its fans) hoped it would be.
The nine-year NFL veteran signed to a three-year, $30 million deal prior to last season, but he only managed 2 touchdowns and 636 yards on 55 catches in 2018. He hasn't stopped believing in himself, though, and the Packer faithful had better hope for the sake of their own sanity that he can make good and deliver in the new season.
"I fit everywhere," said Graham of the Packers' new offensive approach. "I'm going to go prove a lot of people wrong."
The Packers need consistent production from the tight end position. Graham absolutely needs to back all this up; otherwise, his contract will constitute a massive dud and the offense won't be able to reach it's full potential despite rostering one of the best quarterbacks of all time in Aaron Rodgers.
Graham hasn't been able to replicate the success from his New Orleans days, where he managed a 16-touchdown season and two 1,000-yard seasons during a five-year tenure. Nobody's expecting him to set the league on fire, but he needs to be a standout performer for a team that's been forced to over-rely on Davante Adams.
Part of the lack of production comes from a lack of targets. Graham hasn't been the focal point of an offense since he left the Saints, where he was targeted 125 or more times in four consecutive seasons from 2011 to 2014.
Hopefully, his actions speak even louder than his words. Otherwise, Green Bay fans will be filled with nothing but disappointment yet again.
