Packers' Free Agent Needs to Address After the Draft

The Green Bay Packers went 13-3 in their first campaign under head coach Matt LaFleur. They hoisted NFC North crown and were one win away from a Super Bowl appearance.

The NFL Draft presented Green Bay with the perfect opportunity to address the needs that it failed to do up until that point in the offseason. However, after a string of questionable selections, the Packers will now have to dip their toes into the free agency waters once again if they want to replicate their 2019 success.

Here are Green Bay's three biggest needs to address in free agency following the draft.

3. Tight End

Following Jimmy Graham's departure in free agency, the Packers are set to deploy a 35-year-old Marcedes Lewis as their starting tight end in 2020. That concept alone should infuriate fans in Green Bay, considering Lewis played 45% of the snaps last season. To prevent that tally from needing to significantly increase, the Packers better browse the TE market as soon as possible. And no, sophomore Jace Sternberger is nowhere near a reliable NFL player yet.

2. Linebacker

As brutal as he is in pass coverage, Martinez is one of the NFL's most sound tacklers, and his absence will be felt by Green Bay. The Packers' present depth chart likely has offseason signing Christian Kirksey, Oren Burks, and Ty Summers as their primary inside linebackers. Fifth-round pick Kamal Martin can't be expected to contribute much as a rookie. You have to think that that the NFC North champs will make a move for a veteran at some point in the near future.

1. Wide Receiver

Outside of stud Davante Adams, the Packers are thin at wide receiver. They inexplicably passed on drafting a wideout -- their biggest need -- with any of their nine picks. As things stand, Green Bay plans to roll out Devin Funchess, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling behind Adams. That simply isn't enough, even for a quarterback as magnificent as Aaron Rodgers. Signing a free agent between now and the start of camp is a must for Gutekunst and LaFleur.
