Packers GM Brian Gutekunst Hasn't Ruled Out Drafting Quarterback in 2020 First Round
Aaron Rodgers is 36 years old and is likely on his final NFL contract with the Green Bay Packers.
That has Packers GM Brian Gutekunst thinking about the future, which could come sooner than you'd think.
Gutekunst has reportedly not ruled out the idea of drafting a quarterback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, as his prep for the even hits a fever pitch.
The Packers own the No. 30 overall pick in the first round. Any quarterback taken at that slot would not be poised to start right away, but it is important to remember Rodgers was taken No. 24 overall in 2005. Favre was right around the same age then as Rodgers is now.
There is no hiding the fact that the Packers need to have a succession plan at quarterback. It worked out well the last time, and it is always good to be prepared, given Rodgers' age and his injury history.
Deciding to take a quarterback late in the first round is what the Baltimore Ravens did with Lamar Jackson, even with Joe Flacco in town. Teams must always seek to improve, and Gutekunst is rightfully keeping his options open.
