Matt LaFleur Drafting Jordan Love Was a Power Move Against Aaron Rodgers According to Insider
Didn't all the beef between Aaron Rodgers and his head coach end when Mike McCarthy was shown the door? As it turns out, the drama may only be getting started in Green Bay.
In his latest piece for The Athletic, Packers insider Bob McGinn made quite the statement, suggesting the organization deciding to trade up to pick Jordan Love in the first round could be head coach Matt LaFleur sending a stern message to AR12.
"Public niceties aside, my sense is LaFleur, fresh from a terrific 13-3 baptismal season, simply had enough of Rodgers’ act and wanted to change the narrative," McGinn wrote. "With a first-round talent on the roster, the Packers would gain leverage with their imperial quarterback and his passive-aggressive style. If the Packers do indeed want to become a running team next season, they surely wouldn’t want Rodgers rocking the boat and becoming even more difficult to coach."
Oh my. If this is the case, Rodgers has to be fuming right now. Not only did the team go out and draft Love in the first round, but they didn't use a single draft pick on a wide receiver. Where was the help for Rodgers and the offense the team had talked about? During NFL Draft weekend, it was just about nowhere to be found.
Interestingly enough, Rodgers is yet to comment on the Love pick or the Packers draft as a whole. We'll have to wait and see what the QB says, but it's sure looking like his silence is showing us just how annoyed he is.
