Packers Need This Player to Take a Big Leap in 2020 to Prepare for Kenny Clark Departure
By Scott Rogust
The Green Bay Packers didn't exactly get better for the immediate future this offseason, mostly due to their puzzling NFL Draft strategy. While, they're still expected to be one of the top contenders in the NFC, the Packers are going to see some major turnover after the 2020 season.
Stud defensive tackle Kenny Clark is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and is set to command a plethora of suitors once he hits the open market in 2021. Just in case the Packers lose Clark to another squad given their complicated payroll issue, they're going to need to see significant progression from Kingsley Keke.
Green Bay selected Keke in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. In his four seasons with the Aggies, Keke recorded 150 total tackles (21 for loss), 12.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, and three fumble recoveries.
Keke was initially projected to go in the third or fourth round of the draft due to his athleticism and ability to play all positions on the line of scrimmage, but the main concern surrounding him was getting past blockers. Luckily for him, he's got a good defensive mind in coordinator Mike Pettine.
Interestingly enough, Pettine himself said that he expects the 2019 fifth-rounder to make the biggest leap of all players on the defensive side of the ball. Considering Keke has full understanding of the playbook and scheme, there's a strong chance he can win a starting position on the defensive line.
If Keke impresses this upcoming season, the Packers would have a formidable replacement for Clark just in case he leaves for the big bucks.
