Packers Not Giving in to Josh Jones' Trade Request is Senseless
By Brian Cass
The Green Bay Packers have been busy addressing their secondary this offseason, signing former Chicago Bears safety Adrian Amos and drafting Maryland safety Darnell Savage Jr. in the first round of this year's draft.
Now, former second-round safety Josh Jones has read into the situation and skipped out on the team's offseason workouts and is reportedly angling for a trade, writes insider Rob Demovsky.
It makes sense for Jones, as even when the Packers traded away Ha Ha Clinton-Dix last season and dealt with injuries, Jones missed out on a lot of reps. But even with the addition of two more safeties this offseason, the team has not given any indication that they'll honor his trade request.
In two seasons, Jones has started 12 games, recording one interception, seven pass deflections and three sacks. He has the potential the be a reliable operator in this league, so the Packers denying him that opportunity seems odd.
Maybe the return for Jones isn't worth it to GM Brian Gutekunst. Perhaps they're happy to roll him out simply for depth. But with the amount of money they've invested into their secondary this offseason, Jones can't be happy about feeling like the odd man out.
