Packers Pass Rusher Kyler Fackrell Expected to Leave Green Bay in Free Agency
By Jerry Trotta
Following the additions of Za'Darius and Preston Smith, it was never going to be easy for Kyler Fackrell to replicate production similar to that of his breakout campaign in 2018.
Though he only played 40% of the Green Bay Packers' defensive snaps this past season, he is one year removed from registering 42 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and 12 quarterback hits. While Clay Matthews and Nick Perry were struggling, Fackrell was a forced to be reckoned with.
Despite that consistency, 247Sports' Zachary Jacobson reports that the Packers are planning on letting Fackrell walk in free agency this offseason.
This will be a bitter pill for fans in Wisconsin to swallow, as the 28-year-old was a fan favorite at Lambeau. It's probably one they forecasted after watching Fackrell's snaps plummet, however -- they dropped from 59% to 40% this past season.
That nose-dive doesn't look as poor when you consider that Fackrell's 422 defensive snaps finished third among the Pack's outside linebackers, but he compiled one sack, 19 tackles, and just 10 QB hits. That's not gonna cut it.
All told, those lackluster numbers are a synopsis of the Utah State product's pro career to date. Outside of his dominant 2018 season, Fackrell has largely struggled to muster up compelling, combining for just six sacks in three years.
The former third-round pick split snaps with rookie Rashan Gary in 2019, and this report suggests that Green Bay fully intends on giving the Michigan product a larger role in his sophomore season.
