This Packers-Patriots Trade for Julian Edelman Will Finally Give Aaron Rodgers a Top No. 2 Target
By Jerry Trotta
With Tom Brady and now (officially) Rob Gronkowski gone, it doesn't seem to make much sense for the New England Patriots to hang on to Julian Edelman.
The NFL Draft is a little over 24 hours away, so the clock is ticking in terms of confirming an immediate cash out for the 33-year-old veteran. Bill Belichick is clearly aware of this, and he should seriously consider reaching out to WR-needy teams.

It goes without saying that the Green Bay Packers fit that description.
It's well-documented that Aaron Rodgers has been itching for a solid No. 2 pass-catching option behind stud Davante Adams. It's not acceptable having Allen Lazard and running back Aaron Jones as Green Bay's second leading receiver. That can't continue if the Packers want to get over the hump and win the Super Bowl.
Not only would a trade for Edelman give Rodgers a reliable wideout, but the Kent State product would also bring his invaluable championship moxie to a largely inexperienced Green Bay side.
Considering what little New England received in return for Gronkowski, the Packers should be able to get away with a third-round pick here.
Edelman carries cap hits of $9.6 million and $6.6 million over the next two seasons. Those are reasonable figures that fit perfectly for Green Bay, which ranks 19th in the NFL with $10.58 million available in cap space.
New England would rack up even more draft picks and the Packers would fill a gaping hole at receiver. On top of that, this deal would deprive Tampa Bay of acquiring ANOTHER former Patriot. This is yet another deal NFL fans would love to see go down.
