Packers Place Raven Greene on IR With Ankle Injury
By Parker White
Late in the first half of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers safety Raven Greene sustained an ankle injury after taking an awkward fall. Greene needed to be carted off the field, and would not return to the game.
Well, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur initially ruled Greene out for Week 3's clash with San Francisco, but now it's been revealed that the defenseman has been placed on IR, putting him at risk of missing the rest of the season.
Greene will be eligible to return to the Packers later in the season via the IR-Return Designation, though it's unclear if that's the plan.
Greene has been an important part of this Packers defense through the first two weeks, playing a hybrid role at safety and linebacker. With Greene already ruled out, expect B.J. Goodson and Will Redmond to pick up more playing time.
In two games this season, Greene has seven total tackles and one pass defended. The second-year man out of JMU was getting plenty of playing time, as he was on the field for more than 75 percent of the defensive snaps in Week 1 and was well on his way to that number again in Week 2 prior to sustaining the knock.
It's a disappointing loss for Green Bay, who will be looking to maintain its impressive start on defense following the loss of Greene.
