Packers Promote Tight End Evan Baylis From Practice Squad Ahead of Monday Night Matchup vs Lions
By Karl Rasmussen
The Green Bay Packers are shuffling up the roster with just a few hours until kickoff on Monday night.
Prior to their clash with the Lions, Green Bay promoted former Oregon Ducks tight end Evan Baylis to the active roster, his second promotion this season.
In a corresponding move, the Packers released kick returner Tremon Smith, who had returned three kicks for a total of 68 yards this year.
Baylis was active for the Packers in Week 3 and 4, though he was mostly used on special teams, adding just one offensive snap.
Baylis was out of the league in 2018, but spent the 2017 season with the Texans. In three career games, the 25-year-old has yet to record a reception.
During his college days, Baylis caught 44 receptions for 511 yards and three touchdowns across four seasons. He went undrafted in 2016 before latching on with the Texans and subsequently the Packers.
While he likely won't have a significant impact in Week 6, the additional depth at tight end and his talent on special teams are a boost for the Packers.
