Packers Reportedly Trading LB Reggie Gilbert to Titans for Future 7th-Round Pick
By Jerry Trotta
Nothing like a little Wednesday night trade to get us even more amped for the NFL's impending regular season, right?
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers are trading third-year linebacker Reggie Gilbert to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a future seventh-round draft pick.
Gilbert was awarded a spot on Green Bay's 53-man roster out of training camp back in 2018 after beginning his first two seasons in the NFL as a member of the franchise's practice squad. Across 16 games (two starts) in 2018, the Arizona Wildcat product logged 38 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, one forced fumble, and 2.5 sacks.
The 26-year-old was competing with the likes of LBs Ty Summers and James Crawford for the third and fourth ILB positions behind Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith.
The trade suggests that defensive coordinator Mike Pettine clearly favored Summers and Crawford.
One could argue that Nelson was done dirty by the trade as he impressed for the Pack in the preseason, recording 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles thus far. Nonetheless, he will now have to do more work to fight for a roster spot in Nashville.
