Packers Have to Pay a Ton of Money in Roster Bonuses Friday But it Was Worth Every Penny

The Green Bay Packers are just like the rest of us -- waiting until the last possible day to pay their bills during a global pandemic. We feel you.
On Friday, the Packers will have to pay up in grand fashion, as player roster bonuses are due, with many prominent players, including one Aaron Rodgers, in need of funds.
Friday will be an expensive day for the Packers. They must dole out $28.19 million in roster bonus payouts due on the third day of the league year. They are:

Za'Darius Smith: $9 million.
Aaron Rodgers: $5.24 million.

Normally, we'd point to some bad contracts in this mix, but it's safe to say this batch was worth every penny. Specifically, Rodgers and Za'Darius Smith remain two of the best players in the NFL at their respective positions. We have no qualms, even if the Packers' checking account in getting a little low.
Za'Darius Smith: $9 million. Aaron Rodgers: $5.24 million. Preston Smith: $4 million. Adrian Amos: $4 million. Billy Turner: $3 million. Dean Lowry: $2 million. Mason Crosby: $950,000.

The Packers made a drastic turnaround in 2019, in part because ownership was willing to spend money on the defensive side of the ball and make changes on the coaching staff. All of this cost capital, and as much as it hurts to foot the bill on Friday, the Pack are set up for years to come.
