Packers Should Consider These 3 Senior Bowl Standouts as Future Weapons for Aaron Rodgers
By Michael Luciano
The Green Bay Packers could be in the market for another weapon outside for Aaron Rodgers to play with, and the Senior Bowl in Mobile has served as a de facto gathering of players that were almost perfectly designed to star as X receivers in Matt LaFleur's scheme.
One of the biggest winners at any position on Day 2 of practice was former Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool. The 6-4, 229 pound wideout is starting to answer questions about his speed and route running ability, as evidenced by this route and catch off of a throw from Washington State's Anthony Gordon.
USC's Michael Pittman Jr., son of the former Buccaneers running back, had similar questions about his plus traits outside of his contested catch ability. However, his footwork has stood out and the speed is at the very least serviceable, as he and Utah State's Jordan Love hooked up frequently.
Perhaps the biggest individual winner of today's practice was Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims, who has seen his stock rocket up after leaving several scouts with their jaws on the floor thanks to some terrific catches.
Wouldn't Mims look perfect on the receiving end of some Rodgers' downfield bombs?
Green Bay needs anyone and everyone that can go downfield, win a jump ball and create separation on shorter routes with an equal degree of skill. So far in Mobile, the likes of Claypool, Pittman and Mims have shown off traits that would make them an ideal fit in LaFleur's offense.
