Packers Sign Former Bears Guard in Ultimate Scouting Move Before Week 1
By Parker White
Well, the Green Bay Packers are partaking in a little gamesmanship leading up to their Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
On Thursday, the Packers announced the signing of guard Dejon Allen, who previously inked a deal with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent last May.
The first-year player out of Hawaii spent all of last season on Chicago's practice squad before being released this May. Obviously, we aren't talking about a key figure from this Bears team, but he has to know some things that can help Green Bay game-plan for their opening matchup, right?
At the very least, the Bears probably think that's what's behind the Packers move. Frankly, that's enough of a mental advantage to make whatever contract Green Bay gave Allen worth it.
During his college days, Allen started 49 games and earned all-conference honors in each of his last three seasons.
Allen's role with Green Bay isn't settled, but their offensive line isn't set in stone, particularly at the guard position, so maybe he can come in and not only give intel on the opposition but win a rotational spot, or at the very least a role in their practice squad.
