Packers Sign Star CFL Wideout Coming off 100 Catch Season
By Mark Powell
While he may not be able to help the Packers this season, they've added another weapon for Aaron Rodgers on a reserve/futures contract.
CFL wide receiver Reggie Begelton, fresh off a 100 catch season for Calgary, is fighting for a chance in the NFL. Begelton is a rookie out of Lamar University, and was overlooked by NFL teams coming out of school. His modest frame (6-0, 200 pounds) doesn't jump off the scouting report. However, whenever he's received an opportunity, Begelton has always delivered.
Begelton's chance at making the Packers roster next training camp is a longshot, but given he has months to prepare while Green Bay is (hopefully) making a playoff run, he has an advantage others won't be afforded.
Green Bay's wideout corps, headlined by Davante Adams, could use some depth moving forward.
The Packers' sole focus is on their upcoming playoff matchup at Lambeau vs Seattle, but GM Brian Gutekunst has one eye towards the future.
