Packers Signing Dez Bryant Would Make More Sense Than You Think

We are now over two months removed from the 2020 NFL Draft, and the Green Bay Packers' decision to pass on selecting a wide receiver is still just as puzzling. It's been said dozens of times since then, but the organization hasn't done nearly enough to make things easier on the aging Aaron Rodgers.

Rolling out a tandem of Davante Adams and Devin Funchess is a reasonable improvement from last season, but the Packers are still well off the pace of other NFC contenders in terms of talent at skill positions.

That's why Green Bay signing free agent Dez Bryant isn't as crazy as some fans might think.

We're honestly not sure why no team has taken a flier on the former Dallas Cowboys superstar. Sure, he's been out of the league since 2017 and has lost some of his prowess after the catch after some significant injuries, but we're still talking about a player that has incredibly soft hands and undeniable physicality at the point of catch.

You mean to tell us that Bryant wouldn't be more effective than the likes of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard and Jake Kumerow? Please. The three of those players have a combined 29 starts in their respective careers. The three-time Pro Bowler had as many receiving touchdowns between 2013 and '14 alone.

The optics behind signing an oft-injured 31-year-old wideout aren't great, but there are a plenty of players at the position in the same demographic that are still playing at a high level.

There are rumors swirling that Bryant is being recruited by the San Francisco 49ers, who trounced Green Bay in last year's NFC Championship. The Packers potentially choosing to sit idly by and let this happen would serve as yet another slap in the face to Rodgers.
