Packers Still Undecided on No. 2 QB Job Between DeShone Kizer and Tim Boyle
By Sam Dunn
Aaron Rodgers isn't going anywhere. But given the injury woes the Packers superstar has endured over the last couple of seasons, Matt LaFleur needs to know that someone can slide in and make things happen behind center even if the worst happens.
But according to Green Bay insider Rob Demovsky, the backup QB role still isn't set in stone. Tim Boyle and DeShone Kizer are still battling it out.
Kizer, a third-year signal-caller out of Notre Dame, is the only one of the two with live experience in the NFL regular season. A former second-round pick by the Browns, he made 15 starts as a rookie and appeared in three games off the bench last year after coming over to Green Bay. For his career, he's generally been a stinker, tossing up 11 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.
Boyle, a second-year player who went undrafted out of Eastern Kentucky, admittedly hasn't logged any regular season action. But his 2 touchdown passes Thursday night against the Raiders in Winnipeg made this race a bit interesting.
Given Kizer's brief history of abject NFL failure, Packer fans may be rooting for Boyle to win the job by default. But these things aren't played out on paper. Keep an eye on next week's preseason finale against the Chiefs to help settle this thing.
