Packers Should Give Veteran DB Tramon Williams One More Year
NFL free agent Tramon Williams is 36 years old and not the same athlete he was a decade ago, when he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the only time in his long career. However, he's proven he can still produce for any team just as he did this past year with the Green Bay Packers, the team he's spent the majority of his career with.
Williams can still draw the ire of Packers fans every now and then, but he has the potential to be just as explosive as he was in 2010, highlighted by an incredibly clutch game-winning interception against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card game that year. While those bursts of speed are few and far between at this juncture, there is no reason for the team not to re-sign him for one more year, especially at an affordable price.
Even at 36, Williams was still more than a capable defender last year for the 13-3 Packers. Williams played in all 16 games (seven starts) and put up some solid numbers for Green Bay, tying for second on the team with two interceptions and one fumble forced, and leading outright in fumbles recovered with two.
Not to mention, having a guy as liked as Williams with that much experience is a great fit for virtually any locker room.
Williams has proven his value over the course of his 13-year NFL journey. Why not trust his skillset for one more?
