Packers Were Downright Heroic to Overcome Injuries and Hold off Cowboys
By Jerry Trotta
Even considering their dominance over the Dallas Cowboys in recent seasons, how many football pundits truly expected the hobbled Green Bay Packers to leave AT&T Stadium with a convincing victory?
The answer is not many, and this just proves that the Packers' efforts were nothing short of gallant.
For starters, Aaron Rodgers, despite not throwing a touchdown pass for just the 13th time in his 12 years as a starter, was nothing short of remarkable directing an offense without star receiver Davante Adams. He did what his greatness commands -- share the wealth -- and completed passes to NINE different receivers while throwing for 238 yards.
On top of Adams, the Pack were missing cornerback Tony Brown, linebacker Tim Williams, tailback Jamaal Williams, and offensive linemen Cole Madison and Adam Pankey.
Though difficult to overcome, those slew of injuries weren't even the most damning narratives facing Green Bay on Sunday. Star linebacker Za'Darius Smith was limp all game with a knee ailment, and Darnell Savage (ankle), BJ Goodson (neck), Corey Linsley (concussion), and Robert Tonyan (hip), all healthy coming into the clash, were all forced from the game upon suffering their own injuries.
Folks, those are all key and significant contributors for the Packers.
Despite all of this working against Green Bay, Matt LaFleur's squad was able to fend off Dallas' admirable comeback efforts.
Every time they were desperate for a big play, the defense would pressure Dak Prescott and sack him, force an errant throw, or pick him off. Each time the Cowboys needed a defensive stop to get their offense back on the field and continue chipping away, Aaron Jones gashed Dallas for sheer chunks of yardage.
Their win on the road versus Chicago in Week 1 was impressive, but Sunday's dub against the Cowboys in Big D should absolutely serve as Green Bay's most impressive W of 2019 thus far.
