Padres Recall Top Prospect Luis Urias to MLB Roster
The Padres infield is getting a boost, as the team recalled its top prospect to the majors Friday night.
Luis Urias, who briefly spent some time in San Diego earlier this season, will rejoin the team after spending significant time in Triple-A El Paso.
The corresponding roster move is unknown at this point, but Urias may have forced his way towards a promotion with his impressive play in Triple-A. In 339 plate appearances, Urias is hitting .315 with a .398 OBP and has been flexing surprising power with 19 home runs.
Although San Diego currently sits last in the NL West, the Padres are one of a number of teams competing in the NL Wild Card race. As of Friday, there are 10 teams within six games of one another for the second wild card spot. The Padres are only 4.5 games behind the Brewers for that spot.
This move could light a fire under the Padres' roster, as they hope for one last chance towards a playoff run. San Diego didn't sign Manny Machado to a 10-year, $300 million deal to miss the playoffs again.
