Padres Reportedly Entertaining Kirby Yates Trade Talks With Massive Price Tag
By Michael Luciano

The San Diego Padres will be an interesting team to monitor at the trade deadline. They could conceivably add a veteran starter like Noah Syndergaard or keep selling off some of their spare parts and adding to their stockpile of prized prospects.
If the Padres are going to sell, one piece they could move is closer Kirby Yates, who made his first All-Star game this year with a 1.10 ERA and an NL-best 30 saves. However, a Yates deal is unlikely, due to a very high asking price, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
The Padres have placed a very high price tag on Kirby Yates, according to other teams, and recent history of GM A.J. Preller is that he doesn't deviate in trade conversations; he's not a bluffer. So unless some team steps up to match the big ask, Yates will probably stay in SD.

It certainly would be an odd maneuver, as a 32-year-old reliever who bounced around as a journeyman before San Diego likely wouldn't command a top prospect in return. Unless some team is willing to give up a transcendent prospect to add to their bullpen, Yates should stay put in San Diego.
45-45 at the all star break.

Kirby Yates has 30 saves.
Machado, Renfroe, Reyes all with 20+ homers.
Fernando Tatis Jr is a god.
These are the good times. This is what the #FriarFaitfhful has waited for.
Bring on the 2nd half ??
With Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado holding down the left side of the infield for the foreseeable future, the Padres have enough pieces to make some noise. AJ Preller should resist the urge to blow it all up.
