The Carolina Panthers are in the midst of a disappointing losing streak, dropping four straight games to fall to 5-7 on the year.

Well, after Sunday's home loss to the Washington Redskins, the Panthers front office decided that was the last straw. Ron Rivera has been let go as the organization's head coach.

Rivera spent nine seasons as the Panthers coach, but the team has reached the postseason just once since their Super Bowl loss in 2015.

Things looked to be headed in the right direction for Carolina after a 5-3 start, but since then the team has faltered mightily, resulting in Rivera being shown the exit.

Across his nine years at the helm, Rivera amassed a 76-63-1 record, going 3-4 in the playoffs in four trips.

In Rivera's stead, secondary coach Perry Fewell has been named as interim head coach. Norv Turner and Scott Turner will also see changes to their respective roles.

Fewell's first clash in charge will be a divisional rivalry matchup with the Falcons, and he'll be hoping to get his interim tenure off to a strong start.
