Panthers Safety Eric Reid Claims to Have Already Received 3 'Random' Drug Tests This Season
By Charles Nason
Drug tests occur frequently in the NFL, as the league looks to ensure that players aren't violating its substance abuse policy. While the tests are said to be random, there are instances where it doesn't really feel that way.
Some players, it seems, are tested more frequently than others. One of those guys is Carolina Panthers' safety Eric Reid. Reid, a highly controversial figure within the NFL, claimed to have been issued seven of these so called "random" tests last season alone. The 2019 league year began on March 13, and since then, Reid claims to have received three PED tests, and suggested two were issued since the start of training camp.
If what Reid claims is true, then it's really starting to seem like the league has a personal vendetta against the 27-year-old. After all, he did stir up quite a bit of controversy by kneeling alongside Colin Kaepernick for the National Anthem ahead of games, as well as the subsequent collusion case. Could this be the NFL looking for an easy way to get him out of the league?
At this point it's safe to say that Reid is not on any PED's -- or if he is then the league's testing system is horribly flawed -- but the glaring issue is the target that seems to have been painted on the safety's back.
Reid signed with the Carolina Panthers in early parts of the 2018 regular season after enduring a long free agency that saw most teams turn their backs on him.
After a 2018 season full of "random" drug testing, it looks like Reid can expect much of the same, if not more, in 2019.
