3 Pass Rushers Steelers Should Target With Their First Draft Pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers boasted one of the stoutest defenses in the NFL last season. Led by T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Hayward, the 2019 Steelers held opponents to the second-lowest number of yards per play in the NFL at just 4.7. With injuries to starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and backup QB Mason Rudolph, the offense was in disaray, forcing the D to step up and lead the team.

That doesn't mean there isn't further bolstering to be done, however. With that in mind, these three pass rushers would be perfect additions to the defensive side of the ball in the Steel City when it's time for Pittsburgh to make their first selection at No. 42 overall in the upcoming NFL Draft.

1. LB Terrell Lewis, Alabama

Terrell Lewis put up impressive numbers in his senior year for Alabama. In 10 games, Lewis totaled 21 solo tackles and six sacks. One of the biggest concerns with Lewis is injuries, however, as he missed all of his junior year with a knee injury and part of his sophomore year with an arm issue. Based on upside, he presents real value as a second-round pick.

2. EDGE Alton Robinson, Syracuse

Since the Steelers do not get to pick until No. 42, Alton Robinson could easily be off the board by the time they're on the clock. If he's still available, however, look for Mike Tomlim and Co. to leap at the opportunity to select him. Although he declined from 10 sacks his junior year at Syracuse to four in 2019, Robinson has the strength and athleticism to make a real impact as a pass rusher in the NFL.

3. LB Jonathan Greenard, Florida

After missing most of the 2018 season with a wrist injury, Jonathan Greenard transferred from Louisville to Florida and exploded. He put up career bests in sacks (10), tackles for loss (16), and total tackles (53) despite appearing in just 11 games. Greenard's stock is on the rise, and would slot in nicely opposite T.J. Watt.
