VIDEO: Pat Shurmur's Making it Sound Like He's Returning in 2020 and Giants Fans Should Be Terrified
4-11 in the National Football League isn't going to cut it, no matter what team you're coaching for. Whether it be an established franchise like the Giants or an upstart without much of a legacy in Jacksonville, mediocrity doesn't last by any standards. But judging by the words of Giants head coach Pat Shurmur Thursday, he seems to have his sights set on the long term in New York.
"We'll find out next year." Said with all seriousness, and not a hint of doubt. If Shurmur had added "...if I have a job," that'd be a much more accurate statement. On the bright side for Shurmur, at least they're not last in the NFC East, right?
"Not last" isn't going to cut it in New York, though. The Giants haven't been very good with Eli Manning or Daniel Jones at quarterback this year, and it's a wonder Saquon Barkley's seen the recent stretch of statistical performances he has with the play of their offensive line (his legs are probably big enough to gain decent yardage without a line).
They'll need improvements in many areas on defensive end as well, but it all starts with their head coach. Shurmur thinks that will be him next year. Most Giants fans would gladly beg to differ.
