Patrick Mahomes Made NFL Offensive History With AFC Championship Game Performance
By Scott Rogust
The Kansas City Chiefs are heading to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years after defeating the Tennessee Titans 35-24 in Sunday's AFC Title Game. They wouldn't have gotten there without the clutch performance of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
In fact, the third-year signal caller made some history on Sunday afternoon.
Mahomes is the first player in NFL history to record 200-plus passing yards, 50-plus rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown in a Conference Championship Game.
It's truly amazing that Mahomes accomplished this seemingly unthinkable feat in just his second full season as Kansas City's starting quarterback (and he wasn't half bad in last year's edition of the contest, either).
It looked like the Chiefs were going down a similar path to the one they followed in the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans, opening the proceedings with a slow first quarter. Mahomes made sure things didn't get too dire on his "Beast Mode" rushing score, and stormed back from a 17-7 deficit to give them a lead they'd never look back from.
Now, Mahomes will set his focus on lighting up his opponent down in Miami. NFL fans and casual fans alike will be in for a treat on Feb. 2.
