Patriots and Saints Reportedly Among 6 Teams Vying for Gerald McCoy
By Brian Cass
With former Tampa Bay defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on the open market, multiple teams have been reported to have serious interest in the former Pro Bowler.
McCoy should have no problem finding a new team for 2019. He's coming off six sacks, 21 QB hits and 28 total tackles for the Bucs in 2018. He's also tallied six or more sacks in each of the past six seasons.
McCoy would make an instant impact for any team who signs him.
Two teams who could really use McCoy's services are the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints. They're both reportedly in the hunt to land his services too.
New Orleans and New England ranked as the two of the worst teams at getting after the QB last season. New England was 30th, amassing only 21 total sacks. The Saints were even worse, ranking 31st with just 20 sacks.
Inserting McCoy into either of their defensive front-sevens would instantly improve their pass-rush. Both teams have addressed their defensive lines a bit through free agency and the draft this offseason, but neither of them brought in anyone close to McCoy's caliber.
Where will McCoy end up playing this upcoming campaign? We can't wait to find out.
