Patriots Could Get a Huge Break if NFL Needs to Adjust Schedule Due to COVID-19

The NFL schedule is set, but it might not be etched in stone. The COVID-19 pandemic is still a major concern, and the league is taking every precaution to make sure conditions are safe before they send any teams out to play. One of those precautions involves starting the season on what would have been Week 5 if necessary. And if that ends up happening, it would be a huge boost for the New England Patriots.

In Week 4, New England is scheduled to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Removing them from the slate would be a huge weight off of Bill Belichick's shoulders, to say the very least.

These are uncertain times for the Pats. The direction of the team now rests in the hands of unproven quarterback Jarrett Stidham, and nobody is sure what they'll look like in 2020 after dominating the past two decades of professional football. Removing one of their hardest game from the start of the season would certainly help the young QB ease into things, as taking over for Tom Brady and squaring off against Patrick Mahomes in the span of a single month is a lot to ask.

The schedule is difficult for New England. Removing one of the toughest teams entirely would go a long way to help them out -- but it won't make instinctive Patriot-haters too happy.
