Patriots Executive Nick Caserio Reportedly the Leading Candidate to Become Texans General Manager
By Michael Luciano
While Bill Belichick serves as the de facto leader of the New England Patriots, director of player personnel Nick Caserio wields a significant amount of power as the No. 2 within the organization.
Caserio could leave New England, however, to be given a general manager role for the first time, as he's reportedly the candidate most likely to replace Brain Gaine as the Houston Texans' GM.
Caserio, who was wide receivers coach in the 18-1 year of 2007 that saw Tom Brady throw 50 touchdowns and Randy Moss catch 23 of them, has prior history with former Patriots OC and current Texans head coach Bill O'Brien, who succeeded him in that role.
Except for his one-year sabbatical on the sidelines, Caserio has been in the Patriots' front office since 2003, serving as either the director of pro or player personnel since 2004.
While Belichick is a unique football and scouting mind, it makes sense to pilfer one of the brains that help build and sustain the New England dynasty.
The Gaine firing came as a shocker to many, but all that surprise could be forgiven if they can bring Caserio into the fold.
