Patriots Injuries Are Mounting on Offense and Fans Should Be Concerned
By Scott Rogust
The New England Patriots entered "Thursday Night Football" as heavy favorites against the New York Giants. Aside from the first half comeback by the Giants, the Patriots held on for a 35-14 win to improve to 6-0 on the season.
While the win is fine and all for Patriots fans, they should be worried by the staggering amount of injuries that occurred in Week 6.
Six players were injured, including three on offense: wide receiver Josh Gordon, fullback Jakob Johnson, and tight end Matt LaCosse.
Having six injuries in one game is something that would make any team and fan base worry.
Entering Week 6, the Patriots already were without running back Rex Burkhead (foot) and receiver Phillip Dorsett (hamstring). Add that to losing receiver N'Keal Harry (foot) in the preseason to injured reserve and left tackle Isaiah Wynn (toe) in Week 2, and you've got a significantly depleted offense.
As a result, the Patriots top three receivers consisted of Julian Edelman and undrafted rookies Gunner Olszewski and Jakobi Meyers.
While the Patriots have shown in the past that they are more than capable of overcoming such injuries by utilizing the plug-and-play method, the number of casualties is too staggering to take lightly.
With the trade deadline approaching, expect New England to make moves in order to push for their potential seventh Super Bowl victory.
