The departure of Tom Brady has left capable veteran Brian Hoyer and former Auburn gunslinger Jarrett Stidham as the only two quarterbacks on the New England Patriots roster. While many in Foxborough believe Stidham is ready to take the QB1 job in 2020, Todd McShay vehemently denies that idea.
McShay asserted that Stidham is not ready to lead the Patriots, although he did praise his character and "grittiness."
Todd McShay made his opinion very clear:

Jarrett Stidham is not ready to be the Patriots starting quarterback. https://t.co/QyyOgMB17Q
Stidham threw just four passes as a rookie, one of which was intercepted by Jamal Adams. Despite the fact New England used a fourth-round pick on him in last year's draft, the Patriots could look to free agency or the No. 23 pick in the 2020 NFL draft to bring in some competition.
The Patriots might have something big up their sleeve when it comes to finding Brady's replacement, as several sportsbooks have Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson listed as the betting favorite to be New England's starting quarterback in 2021.

Arm talent was never the question with Stidham, but his pro ceiling was going to be extremely limited until he learned how to handle pressure and make plays out of structure. McShay is one of many who think that Stidham hasn't improved enough in that area to earn the QB1 job.
