Patriots Jettisoning Josh Gordon Makes Less and Less Sense Everyday
Despite their 10-2 record, Patriots fans have to be concerned with the overall makeup of their team. The clear strength of this New England squad is their defense, which has only given up 145 points over 12 games, 38 less than the next best defensive team.
For the most part, this combined with their relatively weak schedule has been able to hide the Patriots' offensive inefficiency that was apparent in their losses against the Ravens and Texans.
There's a clear lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball for New England compared to previous years, which has us asking, why did they get rid of Josh Gordon?
The wide receiver was waived back in October after controversially being placed on the IR with a knee injury. Gordon claimed his injury was minor, and it turns out the Patriots were using his IR stint to exploit a loophole to release him.
Well, without Gordon, the Pats acquired Mohamed Sanu and activated N'Keal Harry from IR, but have still struggled to produce through the air. Since Gordon's release, Tom Brady has thrown for 300 yards just once.
It's clear that New England's offense is lacking talent at receiver, so the decision to part ways with Gordon remains as confusing as ever.
New England will get through the regular seasonly successfully due to their defense and experience. But when facing some of the league's premier defenses, as they will be in the playoffs, the Pats may end up regretting cutting ties with Gordon.
