VIDEO: Patriots Unveil New Jerseys in Significant Rebrand
By Adam Weinrib
Even after teasing "something borrowed" and "something blue" in their jersey teaser video last week, the New England Patriots have gone in a direction few of us expected with their new threads. While it seemed unlikely they'd abandon their dynastic look altogether, we were in the process of preparing for a mid-'90s lighter blue throwback, which has been hinted at multiple times over the past few years. Well, not so! The Pats unveiled their new jersey sets on Monday morning, and it appears the Color Rush look has essentially been promoted to the mainstream.
Unexpected, to say the least!
The blues are a sleek look we're familiar with, but the sharpness of the shoulder stripes on the whites will take a while to adjust to.
A fuller, clearer look was provided a few minutes after the hype clip dropped.
It won't be a massive departure from what we've seen in the past -- after all, similar alts found their way onto the field the past few years. But to think the clean Navy is gone, with no bright blue '96 Super Bowl threads to replace it, is sort of hard to fathom.
