Patriots LT Isaiah Wynn Placed on Injured Reserve With Foot Injury
By Mark Powell
Despite earlier reports that the Patriots were taking things week-to-week with left tackle Isaiah Wynn, the protector of Tom Brady's blind side will miss more time than initially expected.
Wynn, a former first-round pick out of Georgia, has been placed on IR with a foot injury. Per NFL rules, he'll miss at least the next eight weeks and be reevaluated by team doctors at that point.
Wynn has dealt with injury concerns even since he was drafted in 2018, as he missed his entire rookie season with an Achilles tear. Still, the Patriots were expecting big things out of Wynn, who they view as having Pro Bowl potential. Unfortunately, what was officially deemed as turf toe will put his development on hold.
The Patriots are loaded as most positions but their offensive line group is a place they're severely lacking depth, hence the multitude of moves made by Bill Belichick and Co. in the run up to the season.
On Monday morning, the Pats signed Caleb Benenoch, formerly of the Bucs. While he likely won't be able to step in as a full-time replacement right away, the Patriots need all hands on deck to protect their 42-year-old quarterback.
