Patriots Reportedly Cut Former Bills Center They Just Traded for
By Michael Luciano
Despite starting nearly every game for the last five seasons, Russell Bodine has found himself out of a job before the campaign starts.
Bodine was traded by the Bills to the New England Patriots after David Andrews was sent to the hospital following some serious blood clots. Just days before the season was set to begin, Bodine was cut. In his place, New England re-signed James Ferentz, the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.
Looks like the Patriots traded a sixth-round pick to a division rival for nothing.
Bodine was drafted in the fourth round, 111th overall, in the 2014 NFL Draft out of North Carolina by the Cincinnati Bengals. Bodine started every game for four seasons in Cincinnati, but signed a two-year contract with the Bills after the Bengals used a first-round pick on Ohio State center Billy Price.
Bodine started 10 games last season for the Bills, but failed to beat out Ted Karras for the starting spot and was released.
The Patriots lose a sixth-round pick, while the Bills gave away a starting offensive lineman for a late-round pick. A rare trade nobody won.
