Patriots Reportedly Cutting Kicker Mike Nugent
By Parker White
The New England Patriots have been one of the best special teams units with kicker Stephen Gostkowski at the helm, but since he's lost for the 2019 season due to a hip injury, head coach Bill Belichick is realizing how easy he had it.
According to Albert Breer, New England is cutting kicker Mike Nugent after just four games with the team.
The former second-round pick has not thrived with the Patriots, as Nugent is 5-for-8 in field goal attempts while missing one extra point.
After spending four seasons with the New York Jets to begin his career, the 37-year-old has been with a host of teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders before latching on with the Patriots in early October.
The Patriots were already working out kickers after Nugent missed some early kicks, so perhaps they're eyeing one of Nick Folk, Greg Joseph, Austin MacGinnis, or Giorgio Tavecchio to replace him.
