Patriots Reportedly Re-Sign DT Danny Shelton
By Jared Kish
The New England Patriots have come to terms with a big man who won a Super Bowl ring with them in February. Danny Shelton, a former first-round draft pick, has reportedly re-signed, reports insider Field Yates.
Originally drafted by Cleveland and then traded to New England, Shelton played in 13 regular season games last year and recorded 21 tackles. He played in Super Bowl LIII and talled three tackles.
The signing bolsters the Pats' front seven in the wake of signing Jamie Collins last week. After losing Trey Flowers and Adrian Clayborn to free agency, smart depth moves were necessary.
New England defense held the Rams offense to a dismal 62 rushing yards in the big game. It makes all the sense in the world to keep around a big body like Shelton, who is listed right around 350 pounds.
Shelton perhaps could see more playing time now, and it can really help his game. Being a former first-round pick, Shelton certainly has talent. A few injuries may have held him back late last year, but the defending champs showed that they like what they have in him with today's deal.
