Patriots Reportedly Release Veteran WR Demaryius Thomas and Place David Andrews on IR
By Adam Weinrib

The Demaryius Thomas preseason roller coaster ride was in full effect this August, and came to a stop a bit abruptly, after things were trending very much the opposite way.
Though most suspected Thomas could be a "surprise" cut throughout camp, his active Week 4 and ramp up in activity seemed to suggest he'd actually survive the roster squeeze.
Not so; Thomas was released on Sunday in a large-scale shuffle that included Cam Meredith, a backup wideout option, hitting the shelf for six games.

Additionally, center David Andrews, someone this New England offense has already prepared to carry on without, will officially hit IR on Saturday.
The Patriots have released veteran WR Demaryius Thomas and placed C David Andrews on IR, per league source. Cameron Meredith heads to PUP, meaning he is out for 6 games minimum.

Thomas racked up 87 yards and two touchdowns in a preseason that seemed to dispel health worries, which were plentiful when he was first added. His Patriots tenure was an odd one; first came Twitter overreaction to "fairness," then swiftly skepticism arrived, followed finally by acceptance that Thomas was, in fact, going to help Tom Brady.
Guess not. Yet another twist.
