Patriots Rule Out Patrick Chung and Damien Harris for Game vs Eagles
By Andy Loughmiller
We are now just one day away from the much-anticipated Super Bowl LII rematch between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have already ruled out No. 1 receiver Alshon Jeffery for the game, and now the Patriots have downgraded a couple of their own players to out for the Week 11 matchup.
Starting safety Patrick Chung and reserve running back Damien Harris will miss Sunday's game with injuries. The two did not make the trip to Philly with the team.
The loss of Harris shouldn't be a big blow to the Patriots offense. The rookie has only been active for two games in his first NFL season and has carried the ball just four times. New England is used to playing without him.
However, Chung's absence from the game is a bit more concerning. Bill Belichick loves to use three safeties on defense, and he will be without one of his most experienced defensive backs vs. Philadelphia on Sunday.
New England's affinity for the three-safety look on defense means that their third and fourth safeties are no strangers to the field of play. Duron Harmon and Terrence Brooks are plenty capable of playing alongside veteran defensive back Devin McCourty.
That said, Chung will be missed in the Patriots run defense. He is like an extra linebacker for New England when he lines up in the box. They have struggled against the run at times this season, and now they will be without one of their best run defenders for the third time this year.
It will be interesting to see how Belichick and company scheme things up without the versatile DB at their disposal.
