Patriots Sign Former Cardinals Special Teams Ace Justin Bethel
By Karl Rasmussen
The New England Patriots made a big splash on the trade market Tuesday morning by acquiring Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons, but that wasn't the only tweak coming to the Pats' roster.
The Patriots later added free agent special teams standout Justin Bethel who had most recently been with the Baltimore Ravens.
Bethel, an eight-year veteran, spent the majority of his career as a special teams player for the Arizona Cardinals. He made three Pro Bowls for the Cards from 2013-15, and occasionally featured as a defensive back for the team.
In his career as a DB, Bethel's logged four interceptions, three of which he returned for a touchdown. He also blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown back in 2012.
The Cardinals drafted Bethel in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Presbyterian College.
The 29-year-old will join his fourth team in the Patriots, where he'll look to display his dominance as a member of New England's special teams unit.
