Patriots' Star David Andrews' Season in Jeopardy After Being Hospitalized With Blood Clots in Lungs

Part of what has made Tom Brady as effective as ever in his 40s has been the standout play of Dante Scarnecchia's offensive line. Patriots center David Andrews, a former undrafted center, has started 57 games in the last four years and has more than earned the trust of Brady, Josh McDaniels, and Bill Belichick.

Well, the team just received some bad and incredibly scary news regarding Andrews' status for the 2019 season. The center has reportedly been hospitalized with a blood clot in his lung, putting his season in jeopardy.

After going undrafted in 2015 out of Georgia, Andrews quickly muscled his way into the starting lineup. His skill as both a run and pass blocker have made him an everyday starter and a team captain.

As far as interior offensive lineman go, New England's depth chart is looking pretty barren. Fourth round pick Hjalte Froholdt has experience at center, but his tape at Arkansas suggests that he is more of a guard. Ted Karras and James Ferentz, the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, are the only other options.

To lose a starting center is always a major blow, but losing one of Andrews' caliber is really going to sting when they start going up against elite defensive tackles.
