The Cam Newton experiment has come to a close for the New England Patriots. On Tuesday morning, news broke that not only has the team released Newton, but they're rocking with first-round pick Mac Jones as their starting QB.

While Jones figured to be the starter of the future for the team, the expectation was Newton would open the season as QB1. Now we know that won't be the case.

Newton is 32 years old and still has plenty of fire to keep on playing. With that said, this late in the offseason, he might have to settle for a backup role if he wants to land with a new team.
