Paul George Contract Details After Thunder Traded Him to Clippers
By Michael Luciano
Getting Kawhi Leonard would have been enough for the Los Angeles Clippers to compete with the Lakers, but Jerry West and Doc Rivers went for broke and added another LA-born superstar.
In addition to signing Leonard to a four-year, $142 million contract, the Clippers traded for Oklahoma City Thunder star Paul George. As part of this trade, the Clippers essentially gave the Thunder their entire draft for the next decade, sending them an unprecedented five first-round picks and two pick swaps in addition to 2018 No. 11 overall pick Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari.
Paul George Contract Details
George is still in the middle of a four-year, $136 million deal he signed with the Thunder last offseason. George will make a base salary of $33,005,556 in 2019-2020.
George can be a free agent in 2021, a class that also features Giannis Antetokounmpo, if he declines his $37,895,268 player option.
George also has a 15 percent trade kicker, but it remains to be seen if he will need to wave it a la Anthony Davis in order to make the cap logistics work.
While most of us were sleeping, the Clippers transformed from a borderline playoff team to the belle of the NBA ball with a few outrageous moves.
