VIDEO: Paul Pierce Claims LeBron James Isn't a Top 5 Player of All Time in Latest Troll Move
By Max Smith
Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce loves his hot takes. We'll never forget when he claimed he had a better career than Dwyane Wade or when he claimed it "was over" for the Bucks after the Celtics took Game 1 in the 2019 Eastern Conference Semifinals (the Bucks continued to win four straight and knock the Celtics out convincingly). However, this might be his hottest take to date. Somebody chose to ask Pierce how he ranks LeBron James all time, and the results weren't terribly kind.
At this point in his career, it's widely agreed upon that LeBron is one of the two greatest players of all time. For Pierce to claim that he isn't even a top five player in history is completely ridiculous.
Like many of his takes, this one may be founded in Pierce's personal history. Pierce's Celtics always seemed to match up with LeBron in the playoffs, which created a rivalry between the pair.
Pierce got the better of LeBron and his Cavaliers twice, but when The King traveled south and joined the Heat, James defeated the Pierce-led Celtics in both of their two meetings. This may be why Pierce feels as though James doesn't deserve to be a top five player. He argues that because he formed super teams, this makes him less of a player. This seems a little too personal for Pierce.
At the end of the day, we all know that LeBron is easily a top five player, and that this is simply another one of Paul Pierce's emotional rants. Nice try, Paul!
