VIDEO: Paulo Costa Jumping Over Crowd Barrier Was Sadly the Most Exciting Part of Adesanya vs Romero
By Evan Wolff
Let's get this out of the way: Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero's "fight" Saturday at UFC 248 was one of the worst title matchups and main events in quite some time. It was disappointing, boring, and worst of all, it wasn't free to watch. However, there was somehow a storyline that came out of the fight that wasn't draped in pure disappointment over the lack of action. UFC middleweight contender Paulo Costa was in the crowd for the championship bout, and had some words for Yoel Romero, whom he narrowly defeated in August at UFC 241, after the fifth round. In fact, "Borrachinha" was so eager to get some face time that he tried to leap over a crowd barrier and had to be restrained by venue security.
Honestly, it's extremely frustrating that the Soldier of God even decided to engage with Costa afterward -- where was that same level of passion during the fight? Good for Costa, though, because he got involved in a fight that had nothing to do with him by jumping over the railing and putting on a show. Fans can now rightly discuss him as the surefire next opponent for Adesanya instead of as a possible option among many.
Don't think that wasn't part of the Brazilian bruiser's plan all along. And as a result, we have to approve.
Thank goodness that the women' co-main event Saturday provided us with the most memorable fight in quite a long time. If only Yoel Romero was this eager to engage with Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title instead of jawing at Borrachinha for an ego boost! Alas.
