One of David Ortiz's closest friends isn't sold on the conclusion recently drawn from his tragic shooting.

Pedro Martinez, who was teammates with Ortiz in Boston in 2003 and 2004, isn't buying into the theory that Ortiz was shot in a case of mistaken identity. He still believes that Big Papi was the target of the attack.

The official story from the authorities is that Sixto David Fernandez, one of Ortiz's friends, was the intended target of the tragic event. The two people who ended up sustaining injuries from the shooting were Ortiz and Jhoel Lopez.

“The only thing I will say is that this is the first time a baseball player was targeted in our country," he said to the Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy, who added that no one at Hall of Fame Weekend in Cooperstown bought the current conclusion, either.

Though the security camera footage of the the bar in which the shooting took place doesn't give a totally clear image of the situation, it does seem to paint the picture that it was in fact a direct attempt on the former Red Sox slugger's life.

In sum, police in the Dominican Republic have arrested 14 suspects believed to be involved in some way with the shooting that hospitalized Ortiz. But all of those arrests still haven't given Martinez any faith that the suspects in question are properly being held accountable for their plot.
