Penn State QB Sean Clifford Deleted His Social Media After Loss to Minnesota Due to Death Threats

There's a ton of pressure on college football players to perform each and every week, especially those in contention for the College Football Playoff. Penn State is a prime example of that, and following the program's loss to Minnesota, things got a bit ugly.
During Penn State media availability on Tuesday, quarterback Sean Clifford revealed that he received numerous death threats from fans following the loss to Minnesota, forcing him to shut down his social media accounts.
"I usually delete closer to games, but I completely deleted it after the Minnesota game," Clifford said, via USA Today. "It's kind of sad to say but you know how fans sometimes get. ... It gets a little crazy. I was kind of, I guess, sick and tired of getting death threats, and some pretty explicit and pretty tough-to-read messages."
During the Nov. 9 game, Clifford completed 23-of-43 pass attempts for 340 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions against the Golden Gophers. As a result of the loss, Penn State dropped from their No. 4 ranking in the College Football Playoff list.
Sadly, this is a common occurrence in sports. Nameless and faceless individuals hop onto social media and send threats to athletes in both college and professional leagues.
Clifford is only 21years old, so there's absolutely no reason he should be facing such harsh scrutiny on his social media accounts. If those hateful individuals put that much emotion and effort into threatening a student athlete, then they need to seriously reevaluate their lives.
