Pete Alonso on Pace to Absolutely Obliterate Mets' Single-Season Home Run Record

New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso is not only a human highlight-maker, but also a record breaker.

Alonso launched homer No. 26 of the year against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, tying the Mets' single-season rookie franchise record for home runs set by Darryl Strawberry in 1983. While this is certainly quite the accomplishment, Alonso is far from done. In fact, he is on pace to absolutely shatter New York's single season dinger mark.

Alonso has been hitting the cover off of every baseball that seems to come his way, ranking second in the MLB in long balls.

However, this torrent of homers wasn't enough for him to be named a finalist in the All-Star Game voting, despite his elaborate plea to fans.

The 419-foot shot also broke the National League record for the most home runs hit by a rookie before the All-Star break since Cody Bellinger in 2017 with 25 homers

He is also now just two shy of tying Mark McGwire's record for most home runs by a first-year player before the month of July (28).
